DESTRUCTION OF DEER
REGULATIONS GAZETTED
Power to destroy deer if it is deemed necessary to do so is conferred on the secretaries of acclimatisation societies by regulations under the Animals .Protections and Game Act gazetted Thursday. It is provided that notwithstanding anything contained in. the Act the secretary of any acclimatisation society or persons duly authorised by him in writing may kill within the society’s district red and fallow deer of either sex and any age which in the opinion of the secretary or persons authorised by him should he destroyed. This right holds good for twelve months from June 15, .1020. and within a month after the expiry ot that period each secretary shall turnisli the Minister of Internal Affairs with a return of the deer so killed. Heads, antlers; vension or skins may he disposed of subject to regulations gazetted on February 7. 1924. A penalty not exceeding £2O is provided for any breach of the new regulations. They apply to the Rotorua acclimatisation district, the general manager of the Department of Tourist nhd Health Resorts being vested with the powers of a secretary of an acclimatisation society with respect to that district.
