FIREMAN DIES AT SKA. AUCKLAND. June IS
An Arab fireman died during tbe voyago of Hie Willesden from Panama to Auckland. He was found in the* bunkers with a fractured s’kull. The ship obtained directions for proper medical treatment' by radio from the steamers TUihine and Port Ibric. The injured man made good progress for ten days, but then lie fiecam.ei wor.se, and died about two weeks out from Auckland. He was buried at sen.
DRUNKEN ESCAPADE. MASTERTON, June 10
Charles lan Lning, aged 20. who admitted having consumed more rum than lie could accommodate, was to-day sentenced on two charges to a month’s imprisonment witff hard labour. Lning. when requested by the proprietor ol ,-i restaurant to refrain from using obscene language, struck the proprietor on the head and upset two tables which were heavily laden with crockery and equipment.
UNMARRIED TEACHERS. WELLINGTON, June 18
.Air Justice MacGregor gave his decision to-day regarding the application ol tie Educational Institute for an originating summons in regard to the alleged prejudicial effect of the Education Board’s method of advertising for teachers, regarding single and female teachers.
I he matter, argued at length yesterday, was as to whether the Institute had the status entitling it to take proceeding- in such a form, and as to w'heher it was the real and capable mouthpiece of the teachers. His Honor,to-day dismissed the sum, moiis without costs, on grounds briefly that the form, of proceedings was not suitable in the ease of a board such as tbe Institute, and that a concrete case of injury to a teacher was not stated, but a general interpretation ol the statute on a hypothetical basis had been sotighL.

At the Magistrate's Court, Francis Thomas Durrati pleaded guilty to tinveiling on the Auckland to AA'cllington express, with intent to evade paying the fare. Ho was fined £lO. AAA'AIM) EVADED. Kashi oils Limited were fined £lO for permitting employees to perform work elsewhere than in a registered factory, and two employees were ioiivicted and "ordered to nay costs 7s, for working for the firm outside a registered flietory. A MARITAL* TROUBLE. WELLINGTON. June IS. Major Charles Argle Eaton, farmer. Masterton. was recently the respondent in a divorce action brought by bis wife 'in account, of alleged misconduct with a girl named Marh-y, employed in the house. Owing to the proved unreliability of tbe girl’s evidence, tbe petition was withdrawn in Hie midst ■if the hearing. To-day Eaton again appeared before Justice MeOuegor as petitioner for restitution of conjugal rights, owing to the failure to arrive at a reconciliation with bis wife. The petition was not opposed, and was granted. HONORARY RADIO INSPECTORS. AVjELLIXGTOX. June ,17. An official statement lias been made by the Secretary of the General Post Diiire in connection with a controversy regarding the duties of the four honorary inspectors who have been selected to assist the departmental radio inspectors ill carrying out their duties. He states that these appointments were made at the request of the radio societies. The Christchurch Society offered to delegate certain members to undertake any duties required of them by the district radio inspector. This offer was accepted, and all tlit* other societies were advised of what bad been done. After a time the Wollingtou .Society notified the Department that they would co-operate in a similar way to the Christchurch Society, and nominated four members who were willing to undertake duties. The appointees were notified that they had been appointed honorary deputy radio inspectors under the direction of the departmental radio inspector at "Wellington. and their duties would be to assist the 'Department in'seeing that the provisions of tbe statute and regulations applying to radio receiving, amateur transmitting and receiving and experimental stations were observed.
The Secretary slates; "li will he observed that no reference is made to sm li. imtters as right of entry or penalties for refusing to permit inspection by one of these honorary officers, ft is quite corerot that the regulations require all radio stations to be open for inspection itt any time by any radio inspector, but it also is quite clear that the Minister’s powers may only be delegated to officers of the Post and Telegraph Department.”

CHILD DROWNED, y GISBORNE, June 19. Thomas Rntnpu. aged two years and four months, whose parents reside at Kaiapni. Christchurch, was found drowned in a well at lokomaru Bay yesterday afternoon.
BREACH OF REGULATIONS. TIMA RU, June 17. In the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr F. I). Mosley. S.M.. Peter Thomson had two charges of breaches of the motor regulations preferred against him. in that he carried a greater number of passengers in bis motor-bus titan lie was licensed to do under Regulation 17 of tbe Motor Yeb,ides Act. Mr L. M. Inglis appeared for defendant, who pleaded guilty. On one of the charges defendant was convicted and fined £3 and costs, and on the other charge he was convicted and discharged.
