THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
Advkiisf. Til ADIS Balaxck. Though exports exceeded imports by nearly live millions for 1024-26. imports now exceed exports by £4,328,-60. That is to rnv, the Dominion is entering on what most people expect to be a lean year with an unfavourable trade balance of nearly ten millions. It is true that the greater portion of the six millions we have lost in exports is i;ceonnted for by a fall in the price of wool, which, though it is serious enough financially, is not the same thing as a. drop in the quantity ot wool produced. Reference to the quantity tables shows, indeed, that 62,832 more bales of wool were shiplied last stfison than during the previous year, though it- shows also that the quantity of butter declined by over 10.000 tons.—Christchurch ‘‘Press. ’
