ISLAND FRUIT TRADE.

WELLINGTON, June 7. A deputation of Auckland and Wellington fruit importers waited on the Minister for the Cook Islands. Sir Maui Poninre, to-day and placed before him recommendations for the organisation of the Cook Hand fruit trade. They recommended that oranges should lie of a minimum size of 2J inches in diameter and a maximum of 35 inches, packed in sizes, carefully picked and handled and containing no windfalls. It was also suggested that they should be tested for sweetness as in California. With regard to bananas it was stated that the present methods caused a 10 to 20 per cent, loss for best fruit. The deputation suggested packing on tbe Hat as in Fiji, with a minimum length of 5 inches, dishonest packing to he penalised. It was recommended that there he two packing sheds at Raratonga, and one at each of the other islands. The Minister promised sympathetic consideration.
