A step towards ending the coal deadlock was taken by Evan Williams (Chairman of the Owners' Association) who is inviting Herbert Smith (President of the Miners’ Federation) to meet him. KING’S BIRTHDAY. LONDON, June 3. The usual picturesque feature of the King’s Birthday celebrations, and the trooping of the colours at the horse guards’ parade was omitted at today’s ceremony. It was cancelled in consequence of the -strike dislocation business scattering the guards who were on duty in various parts of the country. The Royal celebrations of the event, in accordance with custom was confined to a family luncheon party. Cables of congratulation were received from all parts of the world at. Buckingham Palace, outside ol which was a crowd larger than usual. DAIRY BOARD. LONDON, June 3. Stronach Paterson, of A. S. Paterson and Coy, has been appointed New Zealand Government representative on the London Agency of the New Zealand Dairy Board.
