Commenting, the judge said that tlio. Show Association was to be congratulated i n the very large number of entries. which were easily a record for the Dominion. The quality of the butter taken from tho export lines very pleasing, and-compared favourably with that in the classes for specially made butter. With regard to the cheese, while the bulk of tho exhibits were somewhat disappointing, the (thief defect in the body and texture was looseness. However, the higher scoring exhibits were close in texture, and firm and meaty in body. The finish ol' the cheese was generally neat and attractive.

P. I'. Bnrnuiu, the famous American •Showman, was once asked what invention od discovery, had. in his opinion, contributed most of the source of human happiness and enjoyment. Without hesitation lie replied; “The invention or discovery of smoking.” He wasn’t far wrong. Tobacco is like a good wife—it halves our sorrows and doubles our joys. But it must he the right kind of tobacco. If full of nicotine, as so many of the imported brands are, habitual indulgence in it must he attended, sooner or later, with evil consequence. Heart or nerves may become affected. By the way, our Xew Zealand-grown tobaccos me so pure and contain relatively/ so lictle nicotine that they mayo he freely indulged injyith impunity. They don’t bite the tongue. The toasting of the leal (quite a now idea) develops the flavour, which is peculiarly pleasant, and they possess a delightful fragrance cl their own. No wonder they are capturing the market. Ask for “Riverbend Gold,” mild; “Navy Cut” (Bulldog), medium; cr “Cut Plug No. jO” (Bullshoad), full strength.—Advt.
