WEST COAST RUGBY UNION
GREYMOUTH, May 26. Tlie usual weekly meeting was held last evening. A letter was received from the Westland Sub-Union re various matters in connection with the senior competition. It was resolved that Gibbons’ application for transfer from the Magpies to Hokitika Club be acceded to. A request was received from the N.Z. Union to submit names for referees to Inter-Provincial matches, and it was resolved to hand same to the "Referees’ Association for attention.
The N.Z. Union also wrote advising that in future" no reinstated player to the code, who again reverted to League .would be considered for a second reinstatement.
It was resolved to support the-mo-tion of the Poverty Bay Union, protesting at the action taken up by the Welsh Union, relative to the forthcoming Maori tour to England and France, and it was'decided that this decision should be sent on to the N.Z. Union. It was decided to invite the Southland Union to tour the Seddon Shield districts this season as set clown by the Provincial Fixtures Committee and to advise that the tentative date set aside, viz., 7th August, would be suitable. Also to offer 50 per cent of the nett gate for such a match.
In reference to the proposed tour of the Seddon Shield Unions to the North Island, it was resolved to - advise the Nelson Union, in Whose hands arrangements for this tour were left, that this Union at present could not see its way to go into any Heavy expense in like matter, and to suggest that if the "Wellington Union were not prepared to offer a guarantee, that Horowhenua and Manawatu combined he approached as this Union understands these Unions would like a. match. * Colin Hector Howat was reinstated to the Rugby Code.
It was resolved to circularise the lions schools in the district asking
for nominations for a suggested country schools competition separate from, the town schools competition. Schools in the small districts similar to those along the Otira line would be allowed to combine with one another. Kuflinra, Cobden and Grey State schools would not participate in tile competition.
It was resolved to advise the Westland Sub-Union that it was imperative that all fixtures as drawn up for last Saturday must bo proceeded with, as any alteration would mean the interfering with the different rounds. The Union’s delegate at the N.Z. Union’s annual meeting gave his report, and a vote of thanks was recorded for the work done with him on behalf of football on the Coast.
It was resolved to apply to the N.Z. Union for a proportion of the grant set aside for minor unions’ touring teams, in view of tho West Coast team touring to Canterbury and South Canterbury this season.
