WEDNESDAY, 19th MAY. Tlie Board met at 2 p.m. Present:— The Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr W. T. Morpeth (Chairman), Messrs B. IL Ward, Wm. Clayton and W. H. Chinn. , ’ Tho minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . MOTION OF CONDOLENCE.
The Commissioner, before commencing tho business referred to the death of a member of the Board, Air George Alallinson. In doing so Air Alorpeth said the news of the death of Air Alallinson had come as a great shock to his many friends, and was received with very great regret. Air Alallinson had been a member of tho Board for 18 years as the representative of the Crown tenants, and had proved to l>o a very capable member. An old West Coaster, he compared more than favourably with his personality and fine character. He moved:—-“That the Board place on record its appreciation of tho past services of Air G. Afnllinson as a. member, its extreme regret at his death, and convey to the members of his family their deep sense of sorrow at their loss.”
Air AVnrd seconded the motion and quite agreed with all the Commissioner had said. Ah- Alallinson had been a member of the Board for 18 years, before ho (Air Ward) had come to the table. Air Alallinson possessed a. very cheerful disposition and was never down-hearted. He at all times gave careful consideration to the business of tho Board. His practical knowledge was of great value to the Board, and, it was always freely given and noted. He deeply regretted the passing of their fellow member.
Afr AY. Clayton associated himself with the previous speakers. lie had always looked forward to meeting Air Alallinson. He was sorry to hear of his sad end. He deeply regretted tho loss of a fellow member whom he had respected and honoured. AD Chinn supported the motion. Ho Iliad known Air Alallinson in the early days. He was a horn bushman and was a past master when dealing with cattle. He was a generous and good friend, whose loss would he generally deplored by a wide circle of friends.
