HOKITIKA FIRE BRIGADE

At a meeting of the Hokitika Fire Brigade held last evening before the usual practice, the Mayor (Mr (L A. Perry) waited oil the Brigade and presented the following petition, which had been signed by a large number of citizens:—■ tV. \Brnddon, Esq., -Superintendent, Hokitika Fire Brigade. Dear Sir.—Having beard that you propose retiring from the command of the Fire Brigade at the end of the present year, we desire to'express our regret at this decision, and hope you will reconsider the matter with a view of holding office for at least another year. We feel that the Superintendeiley of the Brigade should not l>e idled hurriedly. and we think the notice of your retirement is too short. Knowing the splendid services you have rendered in the past, and the interest you have taken i'n the Brigade for the greater part of vour life, we feel sure you will

accede to our request and retrain from withdrawing from the position at the

present time. Supt. Bracldon in reply stated that after hearing the petition read he would allow himself to ho nominated again for the position for another year, recognising the compliment paid himself and the Brigade. The Mayor thanked Air Braddon lor acceding to the unanimous request made.
