PROA'LSIONS KOI’ Till 1 : PLAYERS

Considerable interest 0 being taken throughout Now Zealand in tlie tour of the Indian Army Hoc-key team which arrived in Auckland on .May 11.

Information received on Saturday stated t'bat the party consists of more than was originally advised, the extra man being the team’s own private cook. This makes the party’s strength up to nineteen. The number and variation of the castes represented in the team make catering and feeding a very difficult problem. The five Sikhs in the team will eat only the meat of male animals. The team as a whole cats meat only three times a week, hut on .those occasions they make up for lost time. In order to prevent any shortage the Canterbury Hockey Association lias been advised to have two live sheep ready for the team oil the cfav of their arrival here.

Supplies of atta, a kind of rough Hour, are being sent ahead of the team to the towns they are visiting and these will he stored until the team’s arrival. Approximate quantities of other foods which the team will need are ns follow: Vegetables: Any quantity. Eggs: Three dozen per day. Afilk: Fourteen pints daily. Bread ; Three large loaves. Biscuits, flutter, tea, salt beans, split peas, rieo, curry powder, pickles. The Indians have two meals a day, morning and evening. At mid-day they simply drink tea which they make themselves. They carry all cooking and heckling gear with them everywhere they tgo.

The team’s playing kit consists of red stockings, red shirts, and white knickers.
