A COMPREHENSIVE TOUR
LONDON, March 13
Colonel ,1. .1. Esson, -Mr W. J. PoWon (Dominion president of the Farmers’ Union), laud Mr P. IT. Cox, who acre appointed by tile New Zealand Government as Royal Commission on Rural Credits, are in London, having arrived from South America a few days ago. They have been travelling in Chnada, tho United States, Chile, Brazil, the Argentine, and Uruguay, and nev.t week they will leave for France, Italy, 'Germany, Denmark, Belgium, and Holland. On their return from the < ofitment they will spend a few weeks m the Mother Country, still oil the quest for information.
They have already acquired a great deal of knowledge as the result ot theii tour so far, and they are puriiculai 1\ impressed with the data tl’.fit t-a-cv were able to procure in Uruguay, which has n very fine rural credit system, as well as Brazil and the Argentine. They are, it is understood, very much ini- , pressed with the American marketing j 'system, and with the informfition tlvy have been able to obtain in regard to rural credits generally. Also they will return to the Dominion with a great deal of information regarding farming methods and farming results there. Yesterday, Mr Poison had the opportunity of meeting the president of the National Farmers’ Union and other members of the executive of that body. He happened to arrive just when they were holding a. week’s meeting of delegates. Strangely enough, the delegation was considering, at the present session, almost th? sub i ec * con ‘
sequent upon a report that has recently been issued by tho British Government, and one or two aspects veto privately discussed between Mr Poison and the chairman. Of course, being a member of a Royal Commission, MiPoison as unable to go deeply into the subject with him. He has received a very cordial invitation to -accept the hospitality of the National Farmers’ Union on the return of the Royal Commission from the Continent, and they will then he given every assistance in seeing the rural organisation in England. „ Phis morning the New ZeaDndeis spent some time at Smithfield with Mr H. S. Forsyth, and this afternoon, at the House of Lords, they met Sir i Howard d’Egville, secretary to the Empire Parliamentary Association.
