The strike of tho Federal Metal Trades Unions against their awards has now been in progress more than a week. In the majority of eases the men have received financial assistance from, their unions. Five more engineering firms have become involved following on the dismissal of an employees, who failed to attend work on Saturday. About one hundred coachmakers were discharged bv three firms for the same reasons. 'I lie miners on the South Coast are not favourable to the present engine drivers’ strike, contending that as the engine drivers failed to support the miners in the recent dispute, the miners- should not support them now. It is expected that other South Coast miners will follow the example of the Mount Pleasant men, and return to worn. LISTENING-IN. MELBOURNE, May 11. The Director of the Postal Services states there are now 109,500 holders of listening-in licenses in the Commonwealth representing 1.8 per hundred of the population. TWO POLICE MISSING. PERTH. The police are investigating the mysterious disappearance of two members of the police fore, Detective-In-spector Walsh and Sergt. Pitman, who left Perth on 28th.
