Goodsell (the holdc-r) won the toss and he choose the southern side ol the course. He had no difficulty in retaining the title. From the start, Saul challenged and took the lead, which was never more than a length. Goodsell kept Saul moving, and passing Aforflake the latter tired, and lie missed a stroke. Goodsell then went to the front, and established a lend of two lengths. At a- mile and a half. Goodsell increased his advantage to lour lengths, and at Cabaritn he was six lengths ahead. Saul’s course was now somewhat erratic. He made an attempt to decrease the lead, but he struck a rough patch. Goodsell clung to the southern bank, and, after passing Abbotsford he ran into smooth wa-, ter, and went on to win easily hv seven lengths. Tie finished quite fresh. Saul showed to advantage in the rough water, but he never; fully extended Goodsell. The winner’s time was 23.11.
