The dispute is over the dismissal of a fireman !>v the chief engineer. Oilier members of the crew, also ihe Seamen’s Union, resent the dismissal, consequently the steamer is ininlilc to obtain a fireman to replace the discharged man. STORAI AT COOK ISLANDS. AYEI.T.INGTON. April fi. A radio message from the Resident Commissioner at Rarotonga to tho Minister in charge ot the Cook Islands states:
“Reports to date at Rarotonga show Gun there has been 75 per cent loss of the banana crop and a loss of 50 per cent of the orange crop. Tho orange trees, however, have not been materially damaged. All early tomatoes have been losl, and there has been severe damage to eocoanut crops.”

Thomas Alan Fleming, aged 28. was sentenced to seven days’ gaol thus morning on a charge ol driving a motor while intoxicated. The police gave evidence that the. accused had been chased by a constable in another car. as a complaint bad been made.
