The colliery enginedrivers ol' Cite Newcastle coalfield have sent an ultimatum to the mine proprietors to the effect that if the latter do not grant them a conference within seven days, to discuss a number of the men’s grievances, the men will cease work. This will mean a general stoppage of all the collieries in the State, involving thousands of employees. SYDNEY SHOW. SYDNEY. March 31. At the show pedigree cattle sales the following were sold:—On account of E. Storey, Christchurch, four shorthorn I) til Is. 350gns. ; on account of L. white. Canterbury, five shorthorn bulls 705gns. ; on account of L. Buchanan, .M.astertoii, three Shorthorn hulls, 350 guineas. Generally the. champion classes sold on a par with last year’s values, but there was a slight fall on other lots. Awards.—Trotters’ and pacers’ stallion, four years and over, the N.Z. bred Native Prince 1, the N.Z.-bred Lincoln’s Green 2. Native Prince also secured reserve championship and was second fur the best trotting stallion exhibited.
