FRENCH POLITICS.

[Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] FALL OF THE FRANC. PARIS, March 27. The Premier, M. Briand, unexpectedly visited the Senate. He appeared to be upset over tho fall of tho franc, which, he remarked, was most unfortunate. He anxiously inquired as to the prospects of the Senate’s acceptance of the Government’s financial proposals. Earlier in the day, a statement was made to the Chamber of Deputies’ Financial Committee by M. Peret, tho now Minister of Finance, in which ho said that money must ho collected by the Treasury immediately and must ho collected every month. The newspapers consider this stateme lit. in some measure, has contributed ta the franc’s sensational fall. On the other hand, it may save tho life of the Government, because no combination is willing to take over the desperate situation 1 LONDON, March 26.

The French franc on the London Exchange Ims established a new low record, closing at 141.31 to LI. The selling is believed to be emanating chiefly from Paris.
