(From a Correspondent). OKURU, A 1 arch 19. The ketch “Elsie” departed yesterday with, a load of sheep, pigs and dairy produce; also wool from Jackson’s Bay.
.Miss iv. Cowan has returned to ■school having spent her summer holidays with her parents. .Mrs ,J. Cron (Haast) and Airs •). 'Graham (AYaiho) leave for Dunedin oil Sunday via- the Haast Pass, Air .John Cron has returned; homo lifer spending a- few weeks holiday at Dunedin. Air Eggling senr., arrived by the “Elsie” and intends to extend bis stay lor a few months.
Air Black and party are due here next week to commence stalking in the I’pper Okuru Valley. A lew more parties have entered the Haast Valley .
Air George Harris and Aliss L. Harris leave for Dunedin next week via Haast Pass. Airs AY. Scott with her sister Aliss Donovan (Karangarua) leave shortly for Dunedin via the Copeland Pass and Pembroke. An officer from, the Alines Department and Public Works Department will arrive in a few days. It is understood they intend to inspect the Jackson’s Bay district.
The Haast Accommodation House is being closed temporarily. Rev. Young held service during the week and considering there were so many away from the. district, the attendance was good. Alaster A. Cron has left for Christchurch where he is being put to school. Airs and Airs Adam Cron leave next week for Dunedin; also Air and Airs Din Nolan. Deer were seen at “’I be .Slip” on ■the Paringa road last week and mote recent tracks have since been seen. It is understood that Air Downie, Inspector of Alines at present at Okuiu intends to recommend that a geological survey be made of the Bed lidls next summer. It is pleasing to note tnc recent improvement made oil the Chirk Bluff Haast Pass Track. This portion has long needed attention. Prominent sign posts have also been erected in various necessary places. Travellers have oil several occasions become lost where a, signpost would have saved the mishap. A pack lmrse belonging to Air Rex Humming was pushed over a steep bank oil the track and some difficulty was experienced m getting it up. the horse being in a somewhat cut and bruised condition. Accidents are becoming frequent- due to the bad condition of the track.
