AMERICAN CABLE NEWS.

[Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] T.TQUOR. IN C.a.vADa. OTTAWA, March 25. After an all-night sitting of the Toronto Legislature an amendment moved by Air Brat-kin to the Budget, favouring the sale ol liquor in Ontario under it system of State control "as defeated by 8-1 to 10. Taking exception to tlie recent assertions that Canada was favouring Alien and not British immigration, the Department of Immigration and Colonisation has issued a statement which says:—“lt was never true that overseas alien immigration equalled British immigration. The States of Canada, for years past have secured more, immigrants from Britain, with one possible exception, than Australia and usualy more t-lian Australia, South Africa and New Zealand combined. Further than this, Australia gets comparatively few immigrants from Britain, except- those whose passages are paid wholly or in part.”
