On Tuesday evening last the Town Hull was tilled with an enthusiastic audience of girls and parents to hear Lady Marjorie Dalrymple explaining the aims and methods of the Girl Guide Movement. The speaker told of her experiences with Guide Companies in many lands, even in Borneo, where native and Chinese girls became keen guides.

The importance of the Guide “proini.se” "as then dealt with by the speaker, the ''promise” being: (1) To do my duty to God and the King; (2) To help other people at all times; (3) To obey tho Guide Law. Briefly the Girl Guide Movement, is to lie Ip the girls ito become useful and worthy citizens, capable of giving help in ordinary circumstances and in emergencies mid to encourage healthful oxoreise and recreation.

To the call for names of those anxious to join the various sections, there "as an eager response.'. I’hc twelve little girls between 8 and II years of age. who came forward to he “Brownies” will form a- most interesting “pack.” and they will commence their work and play as soon as a leader is chosen for them.

Iu the Girl Guide Section Id girls between tho ages ol 11 and 18 were listed, and these, with their parents’ consent and a little preliminary training, will he enrolled as Girl Guides. They will he divided into 0 patrols of 8 each.

The girls over IS years—of whom throe were eleven present—will form, perhaps, a Ranger Company and some of them will he utilised as Guidons o! the above patrols. In the meantime Mrs George Perry will act ns Guide Captain, and the Guiders will he prepared for their work in charge of the patrols.

Lady Mniorie Dairy mole, was very pleased with the encouraging start that has been made in Hokitika. She is now proceeding to form similar companies in Grey mouth. Reef ton and Westport, and it is possible that in the future the Hokitika companies will meet these others in competition and in friendly rivalry. To support the girls in this good work. whV'h will certainly benefit the community indirectly, a local Association is being formed of ladies and gentlemen willing to encourage the movement in this town. The President is Mrs IT. M. C'onl soil, and the Secretary, Mrs Raker. Park Street, and either of these ladies will he glad to hear of any others who will consent to being nominated to the Association.
