Justice Ostler heard an application by Thomas Stanley of Auckland, a possible candidate for the secretaryship of the \ S R.S. for an injunction against a ballot placing three issues before members on the ground that such action is ultra vires and contrary to the Union’s rules. Plaintilf was a prospective candidate lor the Secretaryship and the basis of his objection was tli,at the ballot had the effect, ol restricting application to such classes of members as the issues in the ballot specified, whereas the rules ot the Union allowed a wider scope. Alter legal argument, decision was reserved.

Alatapu was crushed between two buffers and suffered severe injuries to the right thudi. He was removed to llawera Hospital and operated on. but died of shock. Palmerston North K,-turned • Soldiers’ Assn, forwarded a resolution of protest against merging the funds, while Hawke’s Bay Patriotic Society wrote objecting to any nationalisation of the funds.
During the discussion, it was stated that the administration costs ot Palmerston North Society were the lowest in the Dominion. H was decided to express agreement with the R.S.A. resolution and report action to. tho Hawke’s Bay Society, also to write to to the .Minister protesting against holding a conference and the suggestion to amalgamate the lunds.
