A half-ton motor truck crashed into ;1 train at Tot ara Avenue crossing near New Lynn station at about 10.45 a .in. on Saturday. A passenger in the truck Noel Cutler, of Golf Road, New Lynn, received a severe cut on the head, and injuries to the left leg. .1. N. Greaves, the owner and driver of the truck, escaped with nothing worse than a few scratches. The truck itself was carried a couple of chains by the train, and was deposited in a shattered condition almost in the station. The train .with which the truck collided. was a mixed goods one. hound from Auckland to Helensville. Totara Avenue lms been the scene of two motor accidents within the past six months. Five months ago a New [,ynn resident, in a motor car, collided with a train at the same spot. There is no warning hell at the crossing, and applications have been made at intervals by the New Lynn Town Board to the Railway Department over a number of years for a warning signal. MANSLAUGHTER Cl lARGB. TATHAPE, March 13. William Martin Collins* was arrested to-day and was charged with manslaughter. Tho case is one arising out of the death of a Maori named liaere Puru, who was found unconscious on the road, and died later at the hospital. It is alleged that the deceased was knocked down by a horse ridden by the accused. Collins ap|icared before Justices this morning and was remanded to appear before the Magistrate on March 22nd. Bail was allowed in two securities of £IOO each, and self £IOO. GANGER KILLED. STRATFORD, Mareh 13. Some time last evening a railway ganger John O’Callaghan was killed at a Crossing between Stratford and Midhurst. His body was found this morning in a pool of blood alongside the line." The deceased apparently was riding on a jigger, and was struck by a northbound mail train running late. Heavy rain was falling at the time. The driver of the engine knew nothing of the accident. Mr O’Callaghan was a widower. He has brothers in Southland, and his son was last heard of at Riverton. WOMAN SKRIOUSLY INJURED. AUCKLAND, March 13. Mrs Elsie l.e Hoy, residing at Remuera. was struck by a taxi-cab when stepping off the footpath and sustained a fracture of the left leg, a fracture r>r the jaw and scalp wounds. She was taken to the hospital in a serious condil ion. MAORIS ROB TAP. GISBORNE, March 13. Charged with assaulting a Japanese; and robbing him of £42 in money and C2B worth of clothing, two natives, Parekura Haenga and Keroama 'I uliaka. were committed for trial at Port Awauui.
