[Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] N.Z. REJECTS NOT WANTED. BAXTER IN AUSTRALIA. MELBOURNE. .March 3. In the House of Representatives, the ease in which a New Zealand citizen wits recently sentenced at the Dunedin Police Court for having in his possession Communist literature was the subject of serious questions to Mr Bruce, who replied that it was a fact that in the case of Kenneth McLean Baxter, the Magistrate suspended sentence on condition that Baxter left the Dominion. When it was brought under the notice of the Minister of Homo and Territories A Hairs that Baxter intend'd leaving for Australia, authority for Ill’s entry was refused.
A notification was telegraphed to New Zealand. Baxter, however, had made all arrangements for departure and had hi- furniture aboard a vessel about to leave New Zealand and was unable to get it off. Baxter had previously resided in Australia lor seven years and his wife was a native of the Commonwealth.
Baxter was restricted from landing in Australia, hut in view of his wife’s health, which involved a serious operation tit an early dale, he would he permitted to land on temporary exemption lor six months, during which period tlie Department would he in close touch with him.
