F.un.v Kvmaua. “Houses are being erected rapidly along the main street til Kumara. which is now fully a mile in length. Four sawmills are supplying toe material. The extent and richness ol the field are estimated variously, the largest area spoken ol being seven by four miles. Old miners trace the lead to the Taipu \ alley in which there are quart', reel's. The held is estimated to last as an alluvial diggings for several years. —Report by Chief Surveyor of New Zealand, October 1870.
