SECONDARY SCHOOL INSPECTORS. WELLINGTON, February 12. Tt is announced that the following have been appointed inspectors of secondary schools : —Af.r E. Caradus, |5.Sc., first assistant at Nelson College for the past four years, and previously science master at Auckland Grammar School; Ah- AY. T. Foster, ALA., B.Litt.. French master at Auckland Grammar School for the past five years, and formerly head master of Wellesley College. Wellington. LORD ALLENBY. AUCKLAND, February 12. Lord Allenby and party will leave Taupo for Rotorua to-morrow morning. Fishing conditions were very unfavourable, as a heavy south-westerly gale blew all day. The party caught three fifth trolling on the lake, and Lord Allenby later landed two rainbow near the Huka Falls. He paid a brief visit to Wairakci to-day. TOTATJSATOR ODDS. NAPIER. February 12. On two charges of laving totnlisator odds George Bull, at the AVnipukuran .Magistrate's Court to-day, was fined CIO and 7s costs on each charge.
NEW STAMPS. AUCKLAND, February 14. The work of preparing new issues postage stamps for the Dominion is
now in progress. The PostmasterGeneral. Sir .Ta.s. Parr, made the statement that the preparation was well in hand. He expected an issue of. stamps would he made in a month or two. The issue would affeet three denominations,
the penny and two shilling and three shilling stamps. An artistic design, showing the King in military uniform, would lie portrayed on the penny stamps and the 2s and 3s demoninations would show His Afajesty in naval uniform.
TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS. AUCKLAND. February 14. A fatal accident occurred at the approach to the Afuriwai Beach during yesterday’s races. A fivc-seater "car was nroceeding along the beach, when it swerved and capsized in the soft sand. The occupants were thrown out. R. W. AfcLellati (of A. S. Patterson and Company’s office) was killed, while Messrs A. F. Henry and James D. Walsh were injured and conveyed to Auckland hospital. They are progressing favourably. A Chinese named Sum Art, aged 40. a married man with a wife in China, was knocked down hy a tram in Khybcr Pass road last night and killed. He was a. market gardener at Panmure. Rov Jack McLeod, aged six and ahalf years, residing on the Great North Road, was knocked down by a motorcar while crossing the road. He had a big toe amputated and also .suffered a broken log and injuries to the head. He was unconscious when admitted to the hospital last night. His condition shows no improvement to-day. RACEHORSE IN DISPUTE. AVANGANUT, February 13. After a hearing extending into the third day, finality was at length reached iu the civil case at the Supreme Court to-dav in which AVilliam Mitchell sought to recover £2,350 damages in connection with a racehorse. Demure, which lie leased to plaintiff. Subsequently the defendant seized the horse, alleging that the conditions of the lease were not being fulfilled. ATr Justice AfacGregor, after commenting on the unsatisfactory evidence, given by both parties, held that the conditions
of the lease hnd not boon complied with, and gave judgment for the defendant. MOTOR CYCLTST INJURED. CHRISTCHURCH, February 15. A motor cyclist, Iran Taylor, aged 19, of Rnngiora, received a fractured skull in a collision with a motor in Christchurch yesterday. His condition is serious. The car driver was John Wilmington Bistow. SHOT IN CHEST. CHRISTCHURCH, February 15. Harry Fisher, aged 35, bootmaker, married, was accidentally shot in the chest at Wnikuku Beach yesterday. His condition is serious. He left • a loaded gun in a motor-car and it went off while the party were driving along the beach.
