The Irishman were more thrustlul. better opportunists, worked togethei and were superb defensively, while Wales was poor in defence and missed chances. Gillespie (inside left) netted Ireland’s first try in the first nine minutes and Curran (centre forward) the second in twenty-eight minutes. At the interval the score was 2-0. In the second spell the Welshmen improved, but they were repulsed by the Irish defence. Ten minutes before time Curran scored Ireland’s third try, making Ireland 3. Wales 0. RUGBY. After eighteen minutes Young scored for England and Francis converted. Stephenson secured an unconverted try for Ireland while Peritton got a try for England which Francis converted, while Stephenson also kicked a penalty goal. The half-time scores were England 10, Ireland G. At the resumption the Irish attacked and C'ussen annexed two tries, Stephenson converting both. There was a tremendous battle for the last few minutes when Haslctt scored for England and Francis converted. Then just before time F. Hewitt scored and Stephenson unconverted, the game ending Ireland 19, England lfi.
