Air Lloyd took the necessary declaration as a councillor. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed. Tho outward correspondence was approved. From. Westland A. and P. Association asking a public holiday to be declared on Friday next, day of show.— Received and .request granted. From Chief Inspector of Explosives, regard installation of plant. Ap-

proved. From Park and Murdoch notifying adjustment of leases at Koiterangi.— Received. From local bodies .supplying particu-

lars of licensing revenue.—Received. From F. Preston asking attention tt culvert on Gibson Quay.—Received and liability for the work not recognised. The question of tarring ]»>rtion of the footpath was discussed, but the Council was nnabie Lo agree to the request at present. The members indicated a proposition to pay part of the cost would be entertained.

From Automobile Association asking support to the ronding of the district, including Kuniara-Awatuna and Alahinapua roads.—Received. Air Coulson supported the request, which was agreed to.

From Presbyterian Church Committee drawing attention to the footpath korbing.—Received and referred to tbe Public Work* Committee with power to act. From Grcv County Council notifying meeting on Kith inst regarding apportioning of motor lorry fees.—Received and Air Coulson appointed delegate. From O. ,J. Fowler, calling attention to Hampden Street drain which was considered a enure for infection.— Received. The Clerk stated in conjunction with the County Clerk the list of polling places had been revised. Gooch asking for leave to insfa I pump.— Received and approved. Front Westland County Council notifying damage to Kanieri Lake road by leak of water pipe.—Received and £3 passed for payment. Front Overseer as follows*.— I beg to report tlio following v,*orks | tin ve been carried out. during the month of January:-The drain between Rcvell and Sewell Streets on Hampden Street lias been cleaned out and thirty feet of one-foot concrete pipe- put. hi. connecting the drain from Revel! Street. We cleaned out a portion of Fitzherbert Street for a distance of about eight i Jains on both sides of the road, put in a crossing at Cederman’s section in Stafford Street, using oneloot concrete pipes, also approach to Mr Houston in Camp Street. Baric Street was cleaned of blackberries from the State Schol to Fitzherbert Street also a portion of Gibson’s Quay and Brittain Street. The gor.se has been grubbed out on the hill in Rolleston Street between Stafford and Hampden Streets. We cleaned out a block in Hampden Street drain leading from the railway crossing to Sewell Street drain. This requires now pines as the present ones are broken. AA’e repaired a wooden drain at the corner of Stafford and Sewell Streets, also a wooden crossing at Hareourt’s Garage, and at Air Williams in Rolleston Street.

The water supple has taken up a lot of time this month. The washer blow out of one of the lire plugs and a plug blew out at a (lead end in Rolleston Rtreet. while some had leaks, one in Park Street and one in Sewell Street, will require new pipes very soon ; several others in various parts of the town were repaired. On the Kith the pipe line at the Kanleri Forks carried away, two pipes parting on account of the sidling giving away. We went out and had it repaired early in the afternoon. IVe renewed the service at Me Stopl’orth’.s, (he pipes having rusted through.

We started tar-sealing the footpath in Revel I Street the plant going satisfactorily.

Mr Cutbush started work after his annual holidays, being olf two days since through illness. Three meters were put in during the month, one at railway yard, one at the station master’s residence and one up at Son view. Warning hoards wore creeled on both sides of the railway crossing in Weld Street.

The sexton is doing good work cleaning up the paths and clearing the growth at the cemetery.—Received nnd laid on the table. Mr Coulson referred to the tnr-s-o.nl-in.g of Revell Street which had been authorised. The motion so far was being ignored. He thought the work should 1)0 gone on with. The loan account was down to £-100 and work authorised was not done. The Mayor said the tar-sealing was the next work on ihe urogram me. A portion should he done as a trv out. Mr Orr said the Works Committee was doing its best. With good weather hotter progress would he made. The Mayor said they had a good plant—thanks to the Chairman of tlie Works.

From Abattoir Manager, particulars of slaughtered stock: tees £72 lfis. (previous corresponding month £/6 16s).—Received.

Air Orr said the sexton was doing good work at the cemetery. Som» gravel was required for Mncnndrev Square.—Received nnd approved.

Conditions for lotting Howitt Square were approved. Tenders for painting slaughterman’s house.—A. Scott CIS 16s 6d ; Lynch Bros £22 ss. The lowest tender was accepted.

The next meeting of the Council was fixed for Tuesdav. March 2nd.
