A CENOTAPH

SYDNEY WAR .MEMORIAL. SYDNEY, Jan. 28. Impetus has been given to the proposal to erect a cenotaph in Martin place, in memory of the fallen sailors and soldiers, and nurses of this State, by the decision of tlie Premier to delegate the Government architect to act upon the committee, which will deal with plans and designs. It is possible that a coin petition will he instituted, in which case the designs .submitted by returned men will receive every consideration. The Government, it is said, will subscribe the money to build the monument. There is also talk of the proposal to erect a marine war memorial in the harbour, or on sonic point overlooking the harbour, lieii" revived in a more or less satisfactory way. One has heard very little recent mention of the proposal, and it was concluded that the general interest had died out.
