The Ross Swimming Club held their opening earnivai at the. -Municipal Baths on Tuesday night. The function proved most successful. The entries were good ami there was a large number of .spectators present. The Baths were brilliantly lit with electric lights, the power being supplied from the Borough plant. The events were got off promptly, the Secretary, Mr W. J. Blaeklow having the arrangements well in hand. At the conclusion of the earnivai, the Mayor, on behalf of the Chib thanked the large gathering for their attendance and stated a larger carnival would take place in two or three weeks time. A dance followed in the Totara Mull which was also well attended and a very pleasant evening si>ent.

A meeting of the Public Picnic Committee was held at the Coronation Hall on the 23rd to receive the ha lance sheet of the picnic held on the (>tb. inst. The balance sheet showed the collections amounted to (.'2O 12s, the expenditure till IDs 10s, leaving a credit balance of ,25 12s 2d. It was decided to vote 22 10s to the schools excursion wheih takes place at Greymonth next Wednesday. On Thursday evening a meeting of the Ross Sports Committee was held, a fair number being present. The President (S. P. Evans. Esq.,) occupied the chair. The Secretary (A. W. Peebles) presented the balance sheet and report in connection with the last meeting held showing the receipts to he 21.44 anil expenditure 2124. leaving a credit balance of £2O which with a previous balance of 20 makes a credit of 22(1. The Secretary was voted 25 5s for his services. A Committee consisting of those present, was set up with Mr Evans as President and A. W. Peebles as Secretary and Treaurer, to arrange for a further sports meeting to lie held on Easter Tuesday, Otlr April.
A cnm.mittoce consisting of Messrs IV. O. Jones, .fas. Rochford, F. Carter, and J. Walton was appointed to draft a 2100 programme and submit it to a further meeting to he held on Saturday, (Ith February. A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting. ROSS MEDICAL ASSOCIATION. A general meeting of the above associated also took place on Thursday evening in the Coronation Hall, the Mayor presiding. The Secretary presented the balance sheet and report of the affairs of tie Association since its inauguration from Ist January. 1P22. to 51st December, 1925. The receipts during that period amounted to 2113 2s Id. .Made up as I'oiiow.s:— ' Members subscriptions £.50 10s.

euchres .210,0 lls Pd. The expenditure of 2502 17s 2d included to Board for subsidy 2100. medical attendance 2223 13s od. Gar hire conveying patients to Hokitika 245 ss. The credit balance with the subsidy amounts to 2(11. The report showed that during the period the doctor had been called to Ro.-s on .35 occasions and 17 patients had been conveyed to Hokitika for treatment. The affairs of the Association had worked very smoothly ami satisfactorily during the whole of the period. It was suggested that the Association's financial year end on the 51st December of each year. To enable this to he done any members joining during the past six months pay a further fee of 5s to cover them for I lie ensuing year. Any member joining during the first half of the ensuing year to pay 10s and during the latter half of the year ss, thereby terminating all membership at the end of each year. The report further suggested that any member who may he 30 days in arrears with the repayment of his proportion (one-third) of medical expenses incurred he not eligible to receive further medical attention until such debt was liquidated.
The report and balance sheet was received, approved and adopted. Ten guineas were voted to the Secretary and the same nmomil. to he paid for the ensuing year.
