ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. A LARGE MARKET. (By Telegraph.—Special to Guardiaa) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Messrs H. Matson and Co., report as follows rcgaiding their stock sale at Addington yards yesterday: Store sheep—Much the largest yarding for months and again, comprised mostly of wethers. There were a few pens of old ewes. The market all round was a keen one and in our opinion both wethers and lambs are iilkivo freezing parity. What few owes that were entered also sold well, despite the dry weather and shortage of feed. Tli fact of the slaughtermen resuming evidently bucked the market up, pud practicnlFy everything was sold under the. hammer. Best rape lambs made 21s Gd to 2 Is. medium 18s to 21s. others down to 11s; 3-bred ewes lamb 245. best forward wethers (Chathams) to 27s lOd. others 23s to 25s Gd, two-lootli ditto 17s lid to 22s TOi!, one extra good line 255, two-tooth J-bred ewes to 31s 4d, aged owes 10s 3d to 1 Is Id, culls down to Gs. good 4. G, and 8-lootli Hoinnev cross owes to 2Gs.
Store cattle A fairly large yarding, but as usual mostly of nondescript lots. There were one or two decent lions of forward bullocks and young heifers entered, and considering tbe dry spell, we think all sorts sold well. Best forward bullocjks made to £8 10s, 2-year old heifers to £3 ss, good young cows £3 10s to £4 Gs, others down to £1 15s. Fat Pigs—A large entry of porkers, which opened firmly at laic rates, easing towards tbe finish. There wcwonly a medium entry of baconers, which sold well at lute rates. Values were: Porkers 50s. to 575, heavy 58s to GO.s, average 7d to 7-Jd per lb.; lin-e-oners £3 12s to £4 10s, heavy £5 to £5 ss. extra prime £5 15s. average Gd to 7d : choppers £3 to £5. Store pigs—A medium entry. Tbe demand was better than last sale. Values: Wenners 20s to 255, slips 30s to 345. small stores 36s to 30s, medium 40s to 455. large up to 50s. Beef—Another heavy varding. eomnrising about 570 head. Although there was a larger proportion of steers than last week, there were quite a number of old cows and odd lots. The market, especially for the heavier sorts was a good deal cheaper and prices were back on a liar with sales of a fortnight ago. Prime handy weight, however, held their own fairly well. Prime steers made £l4 to £l7. extra to £1!) 7s Gd, medium £ll t’o £l3 15s, lighter and others down to £6 15s, prime heifers £!) to £ll, extra to £ll 17s Gil, medium £G 10s to £8 15s, prime cows £8 6s to £lO os, extra to £ll 7s Gd, medium £5 10s to £7 15s, lighter and others down to £3 Los. Mutton—A larger entry than last week and comprised some excellent lines of wethers, as well as some outstanding pens of ewes. The yarding was more than sufficient for the requirements of the local trade and as exporters were only operating sparsely the market was somewhat easier than last sale, we should say, on an average, Is to Is Gd down. Only for the operation of the West Coast and country buyers the market would have been considerably easier. Prime wethers 31s to 33s Gd. extra to 375, medium 28s to 30s Gd. lighter down to 265, prime ewes 25s to 28s, extra To 31s Id, medium 21s Gd to 21s Oil, others down to 18s. Fat lambs—A fair yarding, totalling 1500. Owing Lo the resumption of work iit the factories, two or three exporters were able to operate and the sale throughout was a good one. The average over all price, all weights, was 9(-id per lb.
