Australia &■ N.Z. Cable Association. 1
LONDON, Jan. 20. Labour is preparing rationing plans for adoption in the event of a national emergency due to the coal crisis. Mr Morrison, Secretary of the London Labour Party, explains that Labour is organising to assist in feeding the neople in the event ol an unheaval. It is co-operating with the Trade Unions and also the municipal bodies. Mr Morrison said: “We feel strongly it is the Government’s duty to adequately prepare to avoid an industrial dislocation. If a Labour Government were in power it would safeguard the essential services by co-
operating with the Trade Union Congress; therefore, we are in duty bound, similarly, to assist the present Government, provided, firstly, that the Government’s scheme does not make Labour’s plans impossible to operate, and, secondly, that wc do not find ourselves engaged in strike-breaking. Anyway, we will not idly watch our people
starve.” The “Standard” says the Government has disclosed its plans for action in the event of a coal rrisis. It is believed that immediately Parliament "('assembles Mr Baldwin will propose the nrolongation of a slightly modified subsidy.
