A DOCTOR'S SUSPENSION

The Royal College of Surgeons lias decided to terminate the suspension of Doctor Axham, aged BG, who was deprived of tho right to practice in 19)2 because lie assisted Sir W. Barker, the bone setter, by administering nil anaesthetic while Barker was operating. Dr Axham’.s ease aroused much dis■ussion, the newspapers and the public •onsidering that Dr Axham had been unjustly treated, especially as Sir AV. Barker was knighted. LONDON, Jan. 20. Regarding Dr- Axham, tho effect of the decision is that he can now apply ’.o the General Afedieal Council to have his name restored to tho list of medical practitioners.
In an interview, Dr Axham said; “I am an old man now. hut my last lays will -he made happier. I shall ’odge an appeal immediately. lam 'onging now to see some friends and colleagues whom I have not .seen for many Years.”
Sir AY. Barker says: “Dr Axham first came to see me operate in 1906. He watched mo for forty-five afternoons. Then lie said lie was convinced that it was his duty, as a qualified nnii, to administer anaesthetics for me. He believed what he did was a ■lublic duty. He never hesitated, and he paid the penalty by his loss of pro'essional status, which has lasted for fifteen years.” '
