SYDNEY, Jan. 20. I'li-- Government again .suffered a severe reverse in the Legislative Coupi il when Sir \V. Camithera presented the report of a vT.-.-l committee of the House as to the reasons the Council insisted on its amendments in the Parliamentary Electorates Bill. The report, stated the Council was constitutionally right in making amendments thought necessary, as the provisions of the Government Bill had not received the approval of the people. Air Willis strongly appealed to the tloll-.- to reject ihe report, and ifiocarry the Bill in il.- original form, but on a division the report was adopted by 34 votes to 27. The motion by Sir AY. Carrutliors. that the Council insisted on the amendments to tho Bill was then carried.

Following on the defeat of the Government, Air Willis postponed tho Abolition ol the Legislative Council Bill until to-inorrow, and (lie House adjourned.
