THE DUNEDIN EXHIBITION
f n y TFfiKGRAPH —PPF.SS ASSOCIATION DUNEDIN, Jan. 18. Excepting the opening day, Boxing Dav and New Year’s Eve, which were all rather special occasions. Saturday was the biggest day yet at the Exhibition. The afternoon attraction was a treasure hunt organised by the Otago Court. Hundreds of people who had previously swatted up the geography of the Provinces could have been seen digains feverishly in the hope of unearthing a disc entitling them to one ~f the l>ig prizes. Saturday night carnival seems to have become the accepted rendezvous of thousands, and on Saturday the attendance was swelled Vi y the added attraction of Madam Iv’lso Stralis’ final concert, and the arrival in two special trains of 2000 excursionists from Oamara. The result was a record attendance of thirtyeight thousand seven hundred and thirty. The Hall of Empire in the British Government Court is now enhanced by a magnificent series of banners of the Empire. Each is heavily embroidered on silk, and tn tne centre of each row the Union Jack and Boyal Standard form the centre pieces, in which the colouring of the banners on the inner wall are the banners of thet colonies, dependencies and settlements, together with emblems of dominions, while the outer wall is devoted to the provinces of India and dependencies of the East. The banners are the ; work of the Boyal School of Needle- [ work, London, and ex-service men who are experts in this clans of work.
