LAUNCH WRECKED.
STRIKES A FLOATINC OBJECT. UTiTIIALIArt AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION AUCKLAND, Jan. 15. A message from Tehapua states that the launch Torn struck a submerged floating object about two miles .If North Cape, at 8 p.m. on Tuesday. and was badly damaged. She warun ashore at Ntidtts Nook, and was broken up by the surf.
The crew got safely ashore. They were: Ernjoxt Neil (master), John Mnehan (leading hand). E. Thomas (seaman) and W. Btielmn. The engine was salvaged the following day. and the four men left for Tehapua. All their personal effects were lost, ymd they will make the voyage from the north ns .ship-wrecked mariners. They had to walk twenty miles from the wreck for .succour. Arrangements have been made by the Marine Superintendent to have them brought to Auckland by the Northern Coy’s steamer Ngahatira. which leaves Audilaid next Monday, and will take them aboard at l’nrengrenga on Thursday.
The Torn was an old launch of two and a-lialf tons, and was launched by Messrs Thomas Neil and Co., of Newton Road. Her principal dimensions were: Length. 82ft. tiveadth, 9ft. Gin. draught 2) feel.
