AN IMPORTANT CONFERENCE.

EDUCATING SOUTH SEA ISI.AXD UllS. AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION WELLINGTON. January M. During the past two days a conference has been held at the Parliament Buildings between the heads of departments and others interested in the education of native children in British portions of the South Sea Islands. The purpose of the conference was to determine a basis of education for the native people in the Pacific Islands and co-operate in the work of the different administrations.

The conference decided upon the general principles on which a curriculum for the Island schools should be drawn up and it is considered by those concerned that flie decisions arrived at will serve a most useful and valuable purpose, the result of which will be of the greatest advantage to inhabitants of the island groups affected.
