VISITOR AMAZED.
AT NEAV ZEALAND’S PROGRESS. TRADERS’ WAYS AVITH BUTTER. ;»Y TEI.KG nil*!! —I*Ell PUESB ABSOOI ATI-i-i. AYELLINGTOX, jail. 14. Mr R. H. Matthews. Secretary of the Central Chamber of Commerce in England, exresscs his astonishment at the progress made in New Zealand, contrasfing the conditions Imre to those at Home. All- Alatthews reckons wo have ten growing months and no expense for housing or feeding stock in the winter. AA’hile the soil is prolific in England they had made the mistake of divorcing iho country from the city, and he hoped these countries would not do the same. Industrial interests at
Home predominated to such an extent that the poor farmers were swamped. Air Matthews was favourably impressed with the assistance given by the Government to farmers, and he considered New Zealand butter the best in the world, but it was used by the dealers for blending with inferior brands, and then compressed and sold as New Zealand.
ATr Afattliews was also much impressed hy the State Forests, which he praised highly.
