At a special meeting' oU the Auckland Amalgamated Engineers’ Union, it was decided to nominate Air Hiram Hunter as the AVorkers’ Representative on the Arbitration Court, with Mr AV. Sill as Deputy. The Auckland Trades and Labour Council, which comprises thirty unions, will discuss the matter of nominations on Jan. 21st. NZ. INSURANCE COY. AUCKLAND, Jan. 12.

The Directors of the New Zealand Insurance Company, Ltd., have declared an interim dividend of ten per cent., per share for the half year ended November 30th., 1925, payable’ on February 10th. next. Two young men, named Rex A’ile and AVilliam Sinclair, were driving in a sedan motor car. In turning a 1 sharp corner, the vehicle ran off the road. AA'hen they were righting it. the car crashed into a bank on the opposite side, and the wheels were wrecked. Sinclair either jumped, or was thrown from the car, and lie sustained severe concussion. He has been admitted to the hospital in a critical condition. He is a linotype operator, 20 years of age. ALLEGED BURGLAR. AVANGANUI, Jan. 10. James Daniel Markham, a AVanganui resident, .was arrested last evening while 'allegedfly attempting to open the door of McGrucr’s drapers’ promises with a jemmy. Afarkhani i.s. a single man, aged 42. The police latter jarrested Arthur Douglas, married, 26 years of age. A quantity of goods alleged to be missed from other places, was found at his house.

Three young Chinese, who were found hidden oil the Tofua, when tlio vessel last arrived from Fiji, were fined £l5O each at the Police Court, or in default 12 months’ imprisonment. They had been in New Zealand before, but had exceeded the limit of time allowed under the temporary permits, and were deported. 'They will again lie sent out of New Zealand.

KAMO HELD UP. DUNEDIN, Jan. 12. The Kamo, which was scheduled to sail for northern ports at ten o’clock to-night, i.s held up till ten to-morrow morning. A couple of the crew sgined off yesterday, and two men signed on after five this evening to take their places. This the other members of the crew alleged to lie too late according to the regulations, and refused to sail. NAPJER. HARBOUR. NAPIER, January 12. The Napier Harbour Board has decided to adopt the recommendation of Messrs Cullen an Keele, the Australian Engineers, to proceed with the completion ol a breakwater harbour. An engineer is to he appointed, and the work will be expedited. This means ending a quarter-century light between the inner and the outer harbour factions. The necessary steps are to lie taken to secure Parliamentary sanction. The work is estimated to cost lour hundred thousand sterling, and will provide berthage for ocean-going vessels.
