POLICE PROMOTIONS.

AVELLINGTON. Jan. 12. Consequent on the retirement of Commissioner AVright, several promotions and transfers were announced in the Police Force to-dav as follows:
Inspector A. T. Emerson, AVhangarei, promoted (Superintendent at AVelvi( 1 ,0 iSuperiiilemJfent Alellveney, appointed Commissioner. Inspector AY. G. AYolilniann, Hamilton, promoted Superintendent at Auckland, vice Superintendent Hendry (retired). Inspector J. C. AVillis transferred from I imam to Hamilton to replace Inspector AVohlmann.
Sub-Inspector J. AV. Hollis, Wellington, promoted Inspector at AVlmngarci, in place of Inspector Emerson.
Sub-Inspector T. S. C. Kemp, AVellington, promoted Inspector at Timani to replace Inspector Wilks. Senior Sergeant P. Harvey, Dnnnevirko, promoted Suh-Tn.spector at AVellingfon in succession to Sub-Inspector Hollis. Senior Detective R. R, AAaid, Auckland, transferred to AA’ellington as Chief-Detective. Senior Sergeant P. J. O'Hara transferred from AVellington to take charge of Dnnnevirke station, to replace Sen-ior-Sergeant Harvey. Sergeant H. H. Butler, Wellington South, promoted to Senior Sergeant in charge of tho Taranaki Street Station, AA’ellington. _ Sergeant D. Scott, of the AVharf Station. AVellington, replaces Sergeant Butler at AVellington South. Constable J. J. Sparks, Christchurch, promoted Sergeant, and transferred to AA r ellington. Detective-Sergeant T. Quirke, Palmerston North, promoted to Senior Detective. Detective E. F. O’Brien, Auckland, promoted Detective-Sergeant.
