The Cricket Council to-dnv resolved to suggest to the Wellington Association that the New Zealand team should play a match against Welling, ton from Jan. 22nd. to 25th.. and to ask the Association to run the match for the Council, if Auckland agrees to postpone its provincial match. The Council hopes thus to recoup itself of s.ome of the expense of the Australian tour. Tf leave is granted to Alleott and Blunt, the whole team will ho available.
S. AUSTRALIA v. N.S.W. SYDNEY, Jan. 11. In the Sheffield Shield match, New South Wales against South Australia, New South Wales in the first innings made 339 for four wickets. Collins made 108, Bardsley 159, Macartney 20 and Kippax 21. Stumps were then drawn. The weather was fine and the wicket good. Collins scored slowly', taking no risks, but lie gave three easy chances, one before he reached double figures. Bardsley also was careful in the early stages, hut later lie opened out, and played with great freedom, adding runs rapidly'. The South Australian fielding was patchy.
AUCKLAND v. CANTERBURY. AUCKLAND, Jan. 11. The -Plunket Shield cricket match, Canterbury r. Auckland promises to be a keen struggle. Canterbury con-
eluded their first innings to-day, passing Auckland's first innings total by only seven runs. Woods was top-scor-er with 12-1, not out. McEwin made 20, Read 3, and Findlay 1. Auckland made good start in the second innings, hut did not live up to it, and when stumps were drawn for the day, they had lost seven wickets for Ml. Anthony’ scored 50, .Prater 88, Cooper 5, Smith 3S (not out), Horspool 0, Sneddon 4, Mills 7, and Player 10; extras being 27. Bowling for Auckland Smith took 5 for 59, Player 3 for 79. For Canterbury Sandman has captured five wickets in Auckland’s second innings.
