JAPANESE RESPECT OUTRAGED. BRAZILIAN AMBASSADOR. IN TROUBLE. [Australia & N.Z. Cable Association.] jr TOKIO, Jan. 11. The Brazilian Ambassador, At. do Lima E. Silva and bis wife in attempting to cross a street cleared for the passage of the Prince Regent fought with a policeman who was attempting to bar their way. The envoy severely injured an officer with a cane and the crowd were angered at a foreigner assaulting a Japanese officer and also resenting the disturbance almost in the presence of the Regent. The crowd swirled about the Brazilians who were rescued with difficultly by tile police and escorted to their home. The Ambassador refuses to make a statement, intimating that lie will ask to be recalled. TOKIO, Jan. 11. The newspapers give prominence to the Brazilian Ambassador incident and they denounce the outrage against the police and disrespect for the Imperial procession. Do Lima E. Silva lias sent a letter to the Foreign Office, explaining the incident was partly due to language difficulty, but makes no apology, Tlie Government has decided not to treat the matter diplomatically, but advised the police to treat it as an incident lietween themselves and the Ambassador. It is also understood the Government is recommending the Ambassador’s recall.
