Tlie Surrey .County Council acting apparently under ajuAct of Parliament of 1751. are refusth’g to allow (lancing after midnight in Epsom and other disricts within 20 miles of London which are within the county borders. This action of the council has come as a shock to promoters of dances. The question has arisen in this way. At Epsom there is a church hall licensed for dancing. The hall is on one of the principal streets, and the occupants of the neighbouring houses have complained of their sleep being disturbed by motor-ears taking away people in the early hours of the morning. One of the residents wrote to tlie county council, and subsequently the promoters of the dances received a letter from the clerk stating that the council had no power to premit public music dancing after 12 o’clock midnight. Several dances have already boon cancelled, the promoters stating that if they are not permitted to continue after 12 o’clock the dances will be a financial failure,
