The chief of police Nadossy has been remanded in custody on a charge of complicity in the forged bank notes affair. FIFTY PERSONS IMPLICATED. LONDON, January 5. The “ Times’s” Paris correspondent says: “France is closely following an investigation that is now being made in Bucharest to discover the source of the forger of French bank notes. It is asserted that the object of the forgers was to provide a fund for a plot intended to place the Archduke Albrecht on the Hungarian Throne, and a number of most highly-placed persons are allegedly implicated. The French Minister at Budapest has gone to Paris to report to his Government. which, throughout, has suspected that the affair had a political background. AMSTERDAM, January 5. Tn connection with the French bank note forgery three important Hungarians have been arrested at The Hague and at Amsterdam, while a fourth Hungarian, also of good family, has been arrested at Hamburg on his ariivnl from Norway, with alleged false French hank notes. LONDON, January 5. The “ Daily Express’s” Vienna correspondent says tliat Franee is demanding eight millions sterling from Hungary as damages for the forgeries of thousands of franc notes.
It is also stated that Czeeho-Slova-kia is planning diplomatic action, through the League of Nations. Arrests continue in connection with the great Hungarian forger pint.- The latest includes that of Edmund Olclivnrv, claiming to l>o a Serbian merchant, but who really is an ex-flving officer. He was arrested at Hamburg, on the steamship Leo. It is alleged that there were one hundred forged thousand-franc notes in his possession.
ENOR AIOUS FORGERIES. BUDAPEST, January 6. It is believed that over fifty persons me implicated in the plot, including many highly-placed State officials. The police chief, Nadossy. lias been dismissed. It is alleged that he put the investigators on the wrong track, and arranged for the Foreign Office to place diplomatic seals on a box containing ten thousand forged thousaiulfranc notes, with which Colonel Jankovics went to Holland. Three thousand more notes have been seized at the Cartographical Institute here. The French .Minister declares that France regards the plot as an attack against her financial credit. The “Arbeiter Zietung” affirms that the discovery of the forgeries has prevented an outbrak by tbe Awakening Magyars, who have aimed at a dictatorship under the Archduke Albrecht. The reason of the forgeries was the financing of the Awakening Afavgars. which has become difficult owing to the League of Nations’ control of the Hungarian finances.
The “ Arbeiter Zeitung ” also declares that Admiral Horthy, the Hungarian ruler, and the army and the civil service had been won over. Admiral lJorthy was promised a dukedom and a large estate. Prince Windiscligratc,’! is reported to have deserted Prince Otto’s followers, and to have joined the Awakening Alaygars. Count Appoyi declares that the forgeries have nothing to do with Prince Otto’s restoration to the throne. LONDON, .lumpily 6.
The “ Daily Chroncile’s” special correspondent declares that the plot was first disclosed to Paris police by accomplices. Detectives went to Budapest. and insisted on an investigation. They got on the track of Colonel Jankovics, who. with two others, was arrested in Holland. During the Dutch investigations, a telegram from Budapest came into the possession of the police, stating that the Colonel had to return immediately. This was traced to a man. who for ten years had been Prince AVindischgraet’s valet. The arrest of the valet and the Prince’s Secretary followed. The French detectives became convinced that these wore only middlemen, and eventually they demanded the arrest of Prince AVindischgratz.
