The Roumanian delegation at London has been informed officially of Prince Carol’s renunciation of the right to tho Throne, and its says that the position arose entirely from private considera- t tions, and cannot he regarded ns indi-1 eating political complications. The Central News Rome correspondent says that the mystery of the renunciation has become more complicated. The Prince’s private secretary made a statement in Milan to the effect that the Prince’s abdication was not dictated by political or family reasons, as a proof of which the secretary stated that the proprietor of the hotel where Prince Carol stayed in Milan had received instructions to reserve apartments for Princess Helen, who was expected on January Bth. Lady Drummond Hay, writing lfl the “Daily Express” from Milan, states that Prince Carol characterises . the newspaper reports as “lies and infamous propaganda against mv family, hut he refuses to he interviewed, to make a detailed statement. Lady Drummond Hay adds; “His renunciation of the Throne has boon wholly voluntary. When the Consul for Roumanin at Milan informed Prinee Carol that the King had formally announced Prince Carol’s renunciation, the latter flew into an uncontrollable passionate rage, he not expecting that the renunciation . would be accepted. The woman Lnpescu is not a Princess but tho daughter of a merchant of Jassy. She is a blue-evcd Jewess, and she has known the Prince for about, a year. She accompanied him to London at the time of Queen Alexandra’s funeral. She is a charming woman, characterised by calm dignity. Tlie Daily Express Paris correspondout reveals' that there is no question of Prince Carol’s re-marrying Zizi Lrinibrino, who is living at Paris, and is happily married to a Roumanian officer. Prince Carol frequently has shown signs, since his royal maniage;, of a desire to break traditions with-jus house. There is every indication that he intends marrying the Princess Lupescu, who is a Roumanian. Both are at present staying at ft hotel in Milan. The Morning Posts’s' Rome correspondent confirms this possibility,. adding that on the day of tlie Prince s arrival at Milan there also came tlie Princess Lupeseus, although the relations' of the little Court towards her were nothing more than those usually accorded distinguished fellow country folk from abroad. The Times Milan correspondent reixJrts that he put a series of questions to Prince Carol, regarding the reasons for the renunciation, receiving the following written reply: “I cannot make a. statement about what you aslc. 1 can only say that everything except the official communications are extravagant damnable lies. 1 am astonished that serious newspapers-publish this fantastic news, which merely is subversive propaganda against my family and self. This propaganda emanates from a well-known source, and honourable newspapers should not use it. This is til! I can say.—(Signed) Carol.”
