They then hit the various mid-Western States and now are touching I lie Pacific Coast, notably '•California, where they are accompanied by heavv fogs. Florida revived one ol the heaviest preeiptat ions known for years, more than l-l inches of rain falling in the .\inimi area within twelve hours. New York and New England States had five days’ continuous rains, accompanied by winds. The southern and northern storms did considerable damage, several lives being lost. In Florida the property losses will amount to millions of dollars. The elfeet of the rains generally lias been beneficial hut they came too late lor many places, where the crops were ruined owing to lack of moisture. Mr A. .M. Roll, a member of the House ol Representatives, conferring with President Coolidge, informed the President that more than one million people are facing starvation in North Georgia this winter, unless the Government extends relief, the drought having caused wholesale crop failures in twenty counties and partial failure in twelve others.
