MASONIC
The annual installation of Lodge Westland Kilwinning, No. 88, took place at the Freemasons Hall. Hamilton Street, last evening, when there was a very large attendance, including brethren from Karamea, Westport. Blackball, Runauga, Grevmouth, Reefton, Taumarunui, Canterbury and other places. Bro. Alan Edgar Wogan was the W.M. elect and the installing officer was the Right Wor. Bro. I). E. Doer© Dunn I’rov. G.M.. assisted by Grand Lodge Officers. The ceremony was performed in due form according to custom, and the. following officers were invested and installed into office: 1.P.M., Wor. Bro. H. Lawn; D.M. Wor. Bro. J. Perkins: S.W., Bro. W. P. IL.AL. on behalf of the West Coast Lodges of the Constitution, presented M. Wor. Bro. 11. L. Michel with a handsome suit of P.G..AI. regalia. In doing so the services of the worthy brother to freemasonry wore lauded by the officers of the Grand Lodge preseiiL. and a very line tribute paid to (lie Masonic service of a brother highly esteemed. M. AA’or. Bro. Michel replied feelingly and in very appreciate terms.
Later the brethren assembled in the Town Hall, where with refreshments and harmony a. pleasant hour or two were passed. Several toasts were proposed and duly honoured, and many interesting speeches made. Songs and recitations were also rendered. A\ or. Bro. Breeze who proposed the health of M. AA'or. Bro. Michel. P.G.M.. took occasion nil liehalf of the brethren of Kilwinning Lodge to present to M. Bro. Michel for Airs Michel a solid silver outre dish its a mark of esteem from the members, extending at the same, time the best wishes.
During the evening one of the visitors mentioned he was last in Hokitika in J 867. He arrived here first in the •‘Elizabeth” from Auckland, in November, ISA), and he detailed some ol his experiences, and mentioned the changes he had noted in the interval. The special impression he gathered from his present, visit was the amount of good hind in the district, and the feeling that as a dairying centre he was sure there was a great future for the place.
Mentioning early times Bro. Breeze stated he and Bro. Alichel arrived in Hokitika together in May, ISfifi, criming by the ‘‘Claud Hamilton.” Mr Breeze referred also to the various public services rendered ~v Bro. Alichel over all the years, and to the pleasant association he had had with Bro. Alichel in many of the institutions referred to.
