Australian play. BRISBANE. Nov. 29. The weather was fine and the wicketgood for the N.S.W. match against Quenshuid. New South Wales in the first innings made 280. Phillips scored 78. Punch -19, and Oldfield 52. Noyes took two wickets for SO, ami Oxenhnm 5 for 27. The hatting was slow. Oxenhnm showed exceptional merit, and greatly troubled the batsmen. HAWERA, Nov. 20. The delightful uncertainty of cricket manifested itself to-day in the Hawke Cup preliminary match between Taranaki and Wanganui. At the end of the first innings, the latter led by 142, the scores being:—Taranaki 1 -4«. Wanganui 280. The chances of Taranaki making a stand to-day appeared remote. During the night and early this morning there was a heavy rainstorm. In the second innings Taranaki made 246, and Wanganui made the 109 required for the loss of five wickets,
