[BY TEI.EoniPn —PLB rREHS ASSOCIATION.] BURNED TO DEATH. INVERCARGILL, November 25. Alexander Stewart, aged 3ft, f-itigle, wee, burned to death in a hut at Winton this morning. The deceased was a snwmillhnnd and occupied the hut with j his brother, who escaped from the I flames.
ESCAPED PRISONER COMMITTED. CHRISTCHURCH, November 25. Charles Augustus Jones, who escaped from Paparua Prison in October, pleaded guilty this morning to eight charges of burgalrv, involving goods worth Cl 79. The financial report showed the total amount of accumulated funds was £88,891 of which (Eft 1.058 belonged to the widows and orphans and aged Masons fund, and C(i.-llt) to the Special war benevolent fund. The installation id the Grand Master was deferred till Saturday evening. BAND WANTS ASSISTANCE. AUCKLAND. Nov. 25. The I reposal to send the Auckland Artillery Band to Dunedin to compete at the Exhibition Contest in I'ebiuary. formed the subject of a deputation which waited mi the Mayor. A request was made that a public meeting should he called for the purpose of raising the necessary funds. It was stated the cost of .-ending the full hand of tit) player- would tie between £SOO and .CfiftO. An assurance was giv.cn that the Bands' Association would assist in the movement, and the Mayor promised to iiiiivene a public meeting for December 2nd. NELSON A. and P. SHOW. NELSON. Nov. 25. The Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Annual Show i- being held to-day. The main interest is centred in the Jersey competition, there l>eing a large numlier of exhibits. Nelson ts fast becoming an important, centre of the Jersey breed.
