NEAY ZEALAND ATHLETICS. [BY TELEGKAPIl —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, November 23. “ The Council should act- in the nature of a Commercial house. Now that athletics in Wellington are in a good position, we should attend to the extenson of the branches, which are not doing so well,” said Air F. At ilton, at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Athletic Association tonight. in urging support for sport in the smaller places throughout the Dominion. The President, Mr Davies, expressed gratification that the standard of athletics in the Dominion had been greatly improved. They bad a prosperous position. Tile cross-country running was good, cycling was going ahead, and athletics generally was making splendid progress. They asked for sympathetic treatment regarding reinstatement. The delegates, as previously wired, wore elected. The officers were elected as under:—President, Air R. AV. AtcVilly : vice-presi-dents, Afessrs F. Wilton, ,1. Taylor: hon. secretary-treasurer (who agreed to act until .January) Air Hugo, Assistant secrctnry-trcnurcr, AD L. A. Tracey; hon. auditor. Air Shallcrass; delegates to tho Olympic Council, ATessrs F. Wilton and It. AleYilly; reinstatements committee. Alessrs Guy, Lusk and Wilton : finance committee, Messrs A listed, Ileenan and AtcVilly.

After being for Jfi years a member of the Council of the New Zealand Athletic Association, and live years president. Air A. T. Davies to-niglit retired from office. He was tendered the best wishes of those present and bis valuable services were eulogised, he being described as “ a man among men.”

The New Zealand Athletic Association decided to-night to recommend the Otago Centre to hold tbo athletic championships after the visit- of the American athletes, Scliolz and Italian, to the Dominion. WOMEN SPRINTERS. WELLINGTON, November 23. The N.Z. Athletic Association at its meeting to-night decided to include a ladies’ 100 yards race in the championship meeting at Dunedin. Some opposition was raised to the proposal on the grounds tlmt it- was not ill the interests of the health of the gentler sex. hilt the opinion expressed was that other games which they played, smh as tennis, were just as strenuous and lasted longer. One member said that some people wanted girls to remain dappers and iav.z fiends, chasing around dance halls with lounge lizards.
