A large number listened with pleasure to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders' Band, which continues to he a big attraction. As a result of the week-end rains, the lawns and gardens are lieginning to take a brighter shape. Work in the pavilions is well forward and they should he completed very soon. The Australian pavilion, which was much behind on the opening day is now practically completed, and gives a comprehensive display of the Commonwealth’s resources and manufactures. Visits hv school children to the Educational Court commenced to-day. and will he continued throughout, the week. The Amusement Park is very popular. and the receipts are large. Much interest is being shown in the Samoan Exhibit in the New Zealand Government Pavilion. Rogaring complaints made about the high cost of accommodation, inquiries show that three leading hotels are charging 2os per day. while others and also private boarding houses, are charging from ten shillings upwards. Bed and breakfast can he had from 6s 6d a day upwards. Visitors booking through the Exhibition Bureau are assured of the specified rates. Tlio.se making their own arrangements must accept the charges which they are quoted. THE BAND CONTEST. CHRISTCHURCH. Nov. 23. Following are the selections which will constitute the test pieces at the Exhibiton Band Contest, to be held at, Dunedin in February: A Grade: Selections—“ Faust” (Borloizl ; “Her Frieseliutz.” (Weber); march—“ London Pride,” (Moorhouse). B. Grade: Selections— “Rigoletto,” (Verdi) : “Border Songs and Ballads.” (Old Scottish): march—“ King Peg,” (Giovanni).
