SHIPPING TROUBLE
[Australia & N.Z. Cable Association.] STRIKERS ASK FOR CONFERENCE. SYDNEY, Nov. 21. An important development in the shipping strike occurred to-day when the strike committee approached the Oversea Shipping Representatives Association with a request for a conference. The request was granted. The conference adjourned after an hour’s discussion. The proceedings were private, but it is understood a deadlock was reached though the conference is not abandoned. THE MAI I END. SYDNEY. November 2.1. Tlie Malieno is again held up, owing to a shortage of crew. She has been removed to the anchorage in Neutral Bay, pending attempts to find the missing men. THE MAH ENO SAILS. (Received this day at ft a.m.) SYDNEY. Nov. 21. The Malieno secured a full crew and sailed at ten. THE DEPORTATIONS. SYDNEY. Nov. 21. When the ease of Walsh and Johnson came before the High Court. Dr Watt, counsel for the defendants asked for a remand for a week to prepare his case. This was granted. CONFERENCE RESUMES. SYDNEY, Nov. 24. The conference of seamen and owners is resuming to-day. SEAMEN SENTENCED. MELBOURNE, Nov. 21. A number of strikers on the steamer Northumberland were sentenced to fourteen days imprisonment on charges of disobeying lawful commands. The Trades Hall Council disputes committee and the conference ot the Maritime and Transport Unions discussed the methods to he taken to prevent the deportation of Walsh and Johnson, hut adjourned till Thursday without reaching a decision. STEAMER TIED UP. PERTH. Nov. 24. The crew of the steamer Karoola again refused to take the vessel to sea and the steamer lias been tied up indefinitely.
