An important development in the shipping strike occurred to-day when the strike committee approached the Oversea Shipping Representatives Association with a request for a conference. SYDNEY, Nov. 24. The conference of seamen and owners is resuming to-day. SEAMEN SENTENCED. MELBOURNE, Nov. 21. A number of strikers on the steamer Northumberland were sentenced to fourteen days imprisonment on charges of disobeying lawful commands. The Trades Hall Council disputes committee and the conference ot the Maritime and Transport Unions discussed the methods to he taken to prevent the deportation of Walsh and Johnson, hut adjourned till Thursday without reaching a decision. STEAMER TIED UP. PERTH. Nov. 24. The crew of the steamer Karoola again refused to take the vessel to sea and the steamer lias been tied up indefinitely.
